This website contains official University Policy documents that have been adopted in accordance with Auburn University Policy on Policies. The Auburn University Policy Database was designated by the administration as the official University policy source on October 15, 2009, and that action was ratified by the Board of Trustees on June 10, 2016. University policies are designed to enhance Auburn University's mission, to promote operational effectiveness, and reduce institutional risks. The process for adopting and revising University Policies is coordinated through the Office of the General Counsel.

To effectively and efficiently govern Auburn University the Board of Trustees retains the right to review, approve, and modify all administrative policies; college, department, division or unit-level policies; and any related procedures governing faculty appointment, promotion, tenure, and dismissal. The Board of Trustees recognizes the responsibility of university administration to administer and implement Board Policies. Under authority delegated by the Board of Trustees, the President is authorized to issue, modify, and approve procedures for administrative policies.

University Policy documents are not contracts. All university policies and procedures must strictly conform and comply with Board Policies. University policies include, but are not limited to, administrative policies and subordinate policies, i.e., college, department, division or unit-level policies. Subordinate policies must conform with administrative policies as well as Board Policies. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between Board Policies and university policies, statements contained on or in policy websites, policy databases, policy repositories, or handbooks, Board Policies supersede the conflicting policy in accordance with the Governance and Authority Policy.

Questions regarding specific policies should be directed to the department responsible for administering that policy. Policy administrators should contact the University Policy Coordinator regarding Auburn University's Policy on Policies and the policy adoption, revision, and withdrawal process.
